Student Services

IELI wants students to be safe, healthy, and happy while they are studying in the U.S.  Helping students understand and participate in a new cultural is part our mission.   We also offer many social and cultural activities to introduce students to campus life.

Assistance with Cultural Adjustment

Moving to a new country is not easy. You will have to make new friends and adjust to new food, customs, and way of life. IELI staff understand this and are available to help ease your transition to life in Denton. New students will attend a cultural orientation session during registration week before classes begin to learn what challenges they might expect in adjusting to American life.

The IELI Conversation Partner Program is a good way to make an American friend who can help teach you about American life.

Assistance with Personal Problems

If you are going through a hard time, the IELI Student Counselor is available to listen and help you with your problems. Whether you are sick, having problems with your roommate, missing home, or dealing with a speeding ticket, the Student Counselor is a safe person to talk to. She will help you find the right way to handle your problems, and her door is always open to students.

Students may also visit a certified counselor in UNT’s Counseling Center free of charge.
