"I am so very happy to be part of the School of Merchandising and Hospitality Management's plan to position UNT among the best Hospitality Programs in the Nation!"

Melissa Portocarrero is the President of the UNT National Society of Minorities in Hospitality; here's what she had to say:

First and foremost, I should say that I'm Peruvian by birth and Venezuelan by choice. I grew up in Caracas, where my parents and friends still live.

My first year at the University of North Texas has been very rewarding. I have had the opportunity to actively participate in many events with the School of Merchandising and Hospitality Management. I am also the proud founding President of the UNT Chapter of the National Society of Minorities in Hospitality, which currently has about 40 registered members. Our main purpose is to engage students in their professional development, and to serve as a link with hospitality industry employers. Our Advisor, our Chapter Treasurer and I were fortunate to attend the NSMH National Conference in Pittsburgh where we witnessed how widely recognized NSMH is. I am so very happy to be part of the School of Merchandising and Hospitality Management's plan to position UNT among the best Hospitality Programs in the nation!

Best of luck!
