DEI Council Student Representative Volunteer Description

Period of Appointment: Semesterly

The mission of the International Affairs Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Council at the University of North Texas is to promote an academically enriching and supportive climate that allows all international students and members of the global community to thrive and succeed. The Council seeks to implement International Affairs policy and procedures and collaborate with units on campus to provide a comprehensive, university-wide approach to diversity, inclusivity, access, and equity that address challenges and concerns faced by international students, staff, and faculty.  

International Affairs is looking to add four students to the Council

  • One international undergraduate student
  • One international graduate student
  • One matriculated IELI student
  • One study abroad alum (either undergraduate or graduate student)


  • Serve as a student member of the council for one semester
  • Attend one council meeting per month
  • Participate and/or facilitate focus groups
  • Provide input from the student perspective on all council initiatives
  • Participate in any council-sponsored events or activities

Benefits to Serving on the International Affairs DEI Council

  • Expand knowledge on various topics as they relate to diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives occurring both on UNT’s campus and nationwide
  • Contribute thoughts, ideas, and feedback that will help shape DEI council actions focused on our international student population
  • Assist the council in taking steps toward achieving its goals
  • Assist in planning and participating in DEI activities and events

Upon Successful Completion of Student Responsibilities on the Council, Students Will Receive

  • A letter of reference
  • A certificate of appreciation
