Krissa discovered her passion for teaching after volunteering as an English tutor at a children's orphanage in her former home country, the Philippines. After she and her family moved to Hawaii, where most of her teaching and tutoring experience is in higher education, she helped undergraduate and international students at the University of Hawaii at Hilo with their English and Filipino language skills. While she pursued her Master of Arts in Second Language Studies, she continued to be a writing tutor and instructor at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. When she is not teaching, she enjoys traveling, volunteering, reading, and learning languages.
