UNT welcomes more than 100 J-1 exchange visitors to campus each year.
Departments who plan to accept J-1 exchange visitors prior to November 1, 2020, must complete an exception request. Please provide a memo or email Brenda.Kihl@unt.edu for an exception request template. Be aware that all scholars arriving from out of the United States must quarantine for 14 days prior to coming on UNT’s campus. In your request, indicate the date of planned arrival to the United States (when quarantine will start), the date the scholar will start working on the UNT campus, and whether or not the exchange visitor will be conducting research with human subjects. The memo must be emailed to Brenda.Kihl@unt.edu to begin the review of the request.
J-1 Exchange Visitors arriving after November 1, 2020 do not need additional approval through this exception process. This process is subject to change based on the UNT Return to Research Stage.
J-1 Exchange Visitors are visiting researchers, professors or specialists from countries outside of the U.S. These exchange visitors have been approved to enter the United States for a specific purpose and specified length of time. The J-1 Exchange Visitor Program is administered by the U.S. Department of State to promote the mutual and collaborative international educational exchange of expertise, teaching and research.
