Applying for a Visa

Visa applications are processed at U.S. consulates around the world. You cannot apply for a visa in the United States. Very limited situations allow for visa applications in Canada or Mexico.

When applying for a visa, it is important to bring the following with you:

Endorsed or Initial Attendance I-20 or DS-2019
Valid passport
Financial Documentation provided for I-20 or DS-2019 issuance
Transcripts (if you are a student)
Additional items as requested by the consulate

J-1 visa holders may enter the United States up to 30 days prior to the start date on form DS-2019. If you cannot arrive by the start date, notify your department for approval.

Upon arrival to campus, check in with your department and register for the required J Orientation via email.
