In support of the University’s vision of cultivating excellence among scholars and
leaders in the global community, International Affairs has established the Award for
Distinguished Contributions to International Education.
This award honors an individual within the university community (faculty, staff, administrator)
who has an exemplary record of distinguished, meritorious, and longstanding contributions
to international education and internationalization at UNT.
The individual’s record should include multiple areas of impact to international education
at UNT. For example, 1) demonstrated positive impact on UNT students’ growth and development
as global citizens 2) internationalizing course curriculum 3) outstanding international
publications that include student contribution and research 4) study abroad program
leadership and development, and 5) collaboration with multiple visiting international
scholars/visitors with significant impact on research/teaching.
Internationalization activities of past recipients are numerous. A short, but not
exhaustive list of examples includes:
- Spearheading and supporting effective curricular change in support of campus internationalization
at UNT
- Significant internationalization of courses at UNT
- Providing opportunities for global learning for UNT students
- Leading/developing study abroad and/or international internship programs for UNT students
- Receiving recognition/awards for international education and scholarly contributions
(teaching/research/service)
- Significant publications showing evidence of international collaborations with demonstrated
impact on global learning opportunities for UNT students
- Hosting J-1 Exchange, Fulbright, and other international scholars at UNT for collaboration
and mentorship
- Leading and supporting campus internationalization involving the participation of
UNT students, such as through global themed events, programming, or lectures at UNT
This individual's principal duties do not include campus internationalization.
Nomination Deadline: November 27, 2024
- Faculty and staff with a minimum 6-8 years at UNT may be considered for this award.
- Faculty and staff with 10+ years at UNT are preferred.
- Nominee has made international education and internationalization a priority throughout
their career at UNT.
Any individual or group at UNT may make a nomination. Self-nominations are accepted
with support from the Department Chair. Nominations are accepted from February through November each year.
Nominations must include:
- Nomination cover page
- Recommendation statement from the nominator
- Two letters of reference from faculty, staff, or students
- Nominee’s CV/resume

The Citation is awarded annually if the committee deems necessary and deserving. Recipient
receives an individual plaque with a notation on a permanent and continuing plaque
posted conspicuously at the university. An honorarium suitable to the high status
of the Citation may accompany the award.
For nominees not selected to receive the Citation, their nominations will remain on
file for an additional 3 years. Applications may be updated with relevant information
for subsequent review cycles.
