UNT Strengthens Partnership with Polytechnic University of the Philippines

RULE PUBLICATION ANNOUNCEMENT

A new federal immigration rule has been published. The effective date is September 15.
The rule replaces Duration of Status (D/S) with fixed‑date admissions for student and exchange visitor visa holders in the U.S., and makes changes to regulations related to educational objectives, including requirements affecting transfers, changes of major, and changes of degree level.

UNT Strengthens Partnership with Polytechnic University of the Philippines Through Faculty Visit and Research Engagement

The University of North Texas strengthened its growing partnership with the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) through a recent visit by Dr. Kuruvilla John, who traveled to Manila to share his expertise in environmental sustainability and represent UNT in continued international collaboration.

On July 30, 2026, Dr. John served as a keynote seminar speaker at PUP’s Sta. Mesa campus, where he delivered a lecture titled “Multi-decadal Changes in Environmental Conditions Over Urban Areas of North Texas: An Energy and Environmental Sustainability Perspective.” The lecture, held at Bulwagang Balagtas, brought together members of the PUP academic community to explore environmental changes affecting urban areas and the implications for energy and environmental sustainability.

Beyond his academic presentation, Dr. John’s visit provided an opportunity to further advance the relationship between UNT and PUP. He represented UNT during an agreement ceremony recognizing the institutions’ shared commitment to international academic and research collaboration.

UNT and PUP signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in 2025, establishing a framework for future collaboration in areas including faculty mobility, joint academic and research conferences, collaborative academic programs, and research projects.

Dr. John’s visit demonstrates the value of these international partnerships in creating opportunities for faculty to share expertise, build research connections, and engage with colleagues and students around the world.

As UNT continues to expand its global engagement, partnerships such as the one with PUP help create meaningful connections between the university community in North Texas and institutions across the globe.

The visit to PUP represents an important step in developing the relationship between UNT and one of the Philippines’ largest universities, with opportunities for continued collaboration in research, teaching, faculty engagement, and international academic exchange.
