As the daughter of a Texas native and a German immigrant, Alexis von Biedenfeld is a lifelong student of language, culture and intersectionality. Upon graduating from Rice University with a B.A. In English and Linguistics, she moved to Japan to work for the JET Program. After her contract ended, Alexis decided to continue her career in English as a Second or Other Language by earning an M.A. in Second Language Studies from the University of Hawaii at Manoa. During her time in Hawaii, Alexis worked as a Writing Workshop tutor, a Hawaii English Language Program instructor, and a temporary instructor at Kyoto Women's University.

Since returning to Texas, Alexis has taught Business Communication, ESL for Immigrants, and Writing and Communication courses to second language learners. She has also volunteered as a JET alumna, played in community orchestras and taught Special Education topics, orchestra and cello to local students attending public schools. When she is not teaching, Alexis enjoys spending time with her family, reading, drinking tea, visiting new places, and playing board games.
