Dr. Nihan Yilmaz has been passionate about languages and teaching for as long as she can
remember. Her journey started in 2012 at Hacettepe University in Turkey, and in 2014,
was awarded a Fulbright scholarship to teach Turkish at the University of Texas-Austin. Dr.
Yilmaz went on to earn a PhD in linguistics and TESOL in 2019, presenting her research
at international conferences in Japan, Singapore, Harvard, and beyond—an experience
that connected her with incredible ESL educators from around the world.
After moving to Plano, Texas in 2019, Dr. Yilmaz transitioned to teaching ESL in public middle and high schools
across the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Along with English and her native Turkish, she also
speaks intermediate Spanish and took college level classes in German, French, and
Italian.
Beyond teaching and languages, Nihan loves staying active, doing real estate, trying new restaurants, and spending
quality time with her family. She is always excited to connect with others who share her passion
for education and lifelong learning and is delighted to be part of UNT!
