TIEF is a grant program designed to seed new projects and opportunities that bring innovative global experiences to the campuses of TIEC’s member institutions in Texas and abroad.
The Study Abroad Development Grant will support the development of a new faculty-led multi-year study abroad program at UNT. During year one of the award, the grant will support faculty and staff members in their program development costs. During year two, funds will be used to lower the student cost during its first year of operation.
UNT’s new program intends to combine a faculty led study abroad program with a project-based internship. UNT will partner with a multinational company with operations in DFW and abroad. The program’s objective is to contribute to student success through innovative global learning in which students gain first-hand experience collaborating with an international company, develop project management and global communication skills, and learn about global issues through the lens of UN Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs). Hosted in the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, the program will be promoted to interdisciplinary studies majors.
In addition, the grant funds a Train the Trainer Program for International Internships so that this new program type can be expanded to include other colleges, departments and faculty-led programs at UNT. This will contribute to capacity building across majors and colleges at the university while prioritizing career readiness and workforce development within UNT’s faculty led study abroad program options.
This award supports the strategic internationalization goals of the university by providing students with access to a new study abroad option: faculty-led program with a project-based internship. By participating in the program, students will develop project-management, global communication, and problem-solving skills that are valuable for their professional careers.
