Hosting a Fulbright Visiting Scholar at UNT
The Fulbright Visiting Scholar Program provides an opportunity for you to have existing
collaborators come to UNT to conduct research and/or teaching. It is also possible
that you may be contacted by a scholar that you do not know who is interested in coming
to UNT.
UNT faculty who are interested in hosting a Fulbright Visiting Scholar should follow
the process outlined below.
-
The Fulbright Visiting Scholar Program application is submitted by the scholar.
-
The application deadline is generally in early fall for the following academic year.
-
UNT provides a letter to the scholar that they include in their application. The letter
is not a formal invitation letter. The letter is contingent on the scholar receiving
the Fulbright Visiting Scholar award and receiving all university approvals to come
to UNT.
-
UNT is not required to provide a financial contribution.
-
UNT is required to have a faculty member serve as the primary host/collaborator for
the scholar during their time at UNT. UNT is required to provide office space, appropriate
access to UNT facilities, and information to support visiting scholars with arrival,
housing, and other items.
-
If the scholar is selected to receive the Fulbright Visiting Scholar Program award,
then they must submit additional information to UNT and receive additional approvals
from UNT.
-
You should virtually meet with the scholar to discuss their Fulbright project, project
dates, and the types of collaborative activities that will occur between you and the
scholar.
-
You should then meet with your department chair/dean to determine if you will proceed
with providing a letter for the scholar’s application.
-
You should consider the following when determining how to proceed.
-
Do you and/or your department have the capacity to serve as a primary host/collaborator
for the scholar based on the project scope and during the timeframe provided?
-
Does the project align with your and/or your department’s research and scholarship?
-
How does hosting the scholar at UNT provide benefits to you, your department, and/or
UNT?
-
What opportunities are there for continued collaboration following the Fulbright period,
such as co-authored publications, joint research, or other initiatives?
-
If you decide to proceed, then request UNT’s template for the letter by emailing Fulbright@unt.edu. Note: You are required to use UNT’s approved template.
-
It is recommended that the UNT Department Chair sign the letter.
-
The letter should be on university/departmental letterhead and include an ink/digital
signature.
If the scholar is selected for the Fulbright Visiting Scholar award, then you will
need to ensure all of UNT’s approvals are completed by doing the following:
Once the scholar is approved to come to UNT,
Once the scholar arrives to UNT,
