J-1 Student Enrollment Requirements

As a J-1 Student, you are required to maintain full-time enrollment status.

J-1 undergraduate students must enroll in 12 credit hours.

9 credit hours must be face-to-face.

Any enrollment over the 9 face-to-face credit hours may be online.

J-1 graduate students must enroll in 9 credit hours.

6 credit hours must be face-to-face.

Any enrollment over the 6 face-to-face credit hours may be online.

There are exceptions to the requirement for full-time status.

Academic Exceptions:

Medical Exceptions:

If you are receiving treatment for a physical or mental health condition, you may submit a signed doctor's note signed by a Medical Doctor (MD), Doctor of Osteopathy (DO), or Licensed Clinical Psychologist with your e-form for approval.
The note must be on office letterhead, signed by an MD, DO, or Licensed Clinical Psychologist, and indicate the recommended credit hours for enrollment in a specific enrollment term.
